| Hummingbirds
are high energy creatures. Fill your garden with plants that
produce enough nectar (liquid energy) to sustain hummingbirds and your garden will be all the more
spectacular. I love it when the hummingbirds that take up residence,
the chatter that a nesting hummingbird will put out as you approach yields
a potent dose of well expressed opinion.
You can further encourage the hummingbirds by putting up a hummingbird
feeder, but this is not necessary if the plants can sustain
them. If you do put out a feeder be sure to change the unused sugar
solution every few days as it can sour, and to remove the feeders when the
hummingbirds should be migrating South. Planning a garden for hummingbirds is not so hard. They
love flowers about as much as most gardeners. I try to have plants
that bloom throughout the seasons, encouraging the hummingbirds is just an
added incentive.
But there are some plants that are spectacular at attracting
hummingbirds. The following plant list will be sure to draw in any
hummingbirds that are in your neighborhood. This Anna's Hummingbird
was alternating between feeding on Grevillea blossom nectar and making pit stops at a local feeder.
