Salvia leucantha Midnight - Mexican Sage

Salvia leucantha Midnight has been the most popular of the Mexican Sages recently. Now there are new varieties available, Danielle's Dream and Santa Barbara. 10 years ago it was only the species that was available. I like to use whatever all of the other guys are not using, I think it makes the garden more interesting. Both the species and the Midnight cultivar grow to the same dimensions and with the same conditions. Both are pretty, both are hardy. Salvia leucantha Midnight is a great nectar source for the Mournful Duskywing, Sara Orangetip, White Checkered Skipper, and the California Dogface Butterfly and is a nice addition to the Butterfly Garden as well as the hummingbird garden.
