Salvia madrensis ~ Forsythia Sage

Salvia madrensis is a sage large late blooming sage.  The Forsythia Sage flowers are a spectacular yellow as they glow out from a shaded section of the garden.  Forsythia sage is native to the mountains of Mexico at an elevation ranging between 4,000-5,000 feet in warm wet regions.  It can take temperatures into the mid 20's and may come back from worse setbacks.    It can get to 7-8 feet tall and wide.  It blooms in the fall. Salvia madrensis has performed best in our gardens in moist shaded locations with well amended soils.  Salvia madrensis is a great addition to the Butterfly Garden as well as the Hummingbird Garden.
