Hummingbird Feeder

Hummingbird feeders are usually red.  People often use nectar with red dye but this does not help the hummingbird feeder attract the birds.  I hang my hummingbird feeder from a post with a wire.  I can coat the wire with sticky goop that catches the ants.  That way I don't add to my ant problems.  Since hummingbirds are very territorial using several hummingbird feeders spaced around the yard helps to separate the birds and you will get more birds in your yard.

Hummingbird feeders should be the size that can feed the birds that come to it in 2-3 days.  Extra food left in your hummingbird feeder can get mold and sicken your birds.  Hummingbird food should be replaced frequently and the feeders washed.

If you have hummingbird feeders you may get Orioles as well, particularly if you put them in a sunny location and put a feeder up with a standing bar since the Orioles don't hover.

Here is our hummingbird recipe.
