Cercis canadensis is an
all-season tree. Cercis Forest Pansy flowers in the late Winter and
into the first part of Spring. Then the dark red leaves come on,
totally changing the character of the tree and the garden. And the
final climax is the changing of the leaves. This is no mean feat in
a Southern California garden. Cercis Forest Pansy will grow and
thrive in full sun, but I think the leaves look better in a partially
shaded location. While they can survive on a spartan water diet once
established Cercis Forest Pansy would prefer regular water, rich soil and
good drainage.
