Brachychiton bidwillii ~ Little Kurrajong

Brachychiton bidwillii is a spectacular small tree. The Red flowers of Little Kurrajong grow directly from the wood of the branches that are several years old. Brachychiton bidwillii grows up to 15 feet tall, is not picky about soil but demands decent drainage. Brachychiton bidwillii comes from a dry forest setting in Eastern Australia and though they can tolerate some shade they bloom better in full sun. The roots are tuberous and the trees quickly become drought tolerant. Primarily a Summer bloomer, given some good conditions Brachychiton bidwillii can bloom at almost any time of year. Brachychiton bidwillii is Winter susceptable to anything more than a light frost, 28° F.
