Lavatera purisima

Lavatera purisima is a cultivar of the Channel Island's Lavatera assurgentifolia and Lavatera venosa from off Baja.  The Tree Mallow will readily grow to 8 feet tall and 10 feet or more in width.  It tends to be rather weak stemmed and will flop rather than grow much taller.  Our plants have not been touched by temperatures that dipped into the low 20's.  Lavatera purisima just kept blooming straight through the whole season.  Plants will grow in light shade to full sun.  Lavatera purisima is a nectar source for the Painted Lady Butterfly and is a great addition to the butterfly garden.

High resolution images of Lavatera purisima are available.
