Calliandra californica is a great addition to the butterfly garden and hummingbird garden. The Baja Fairy Duster grows to 3-5 feet tall and wide. Calliandra californica is native to Baja California. The Baja Fairy Duster requires decent drainage or good drying periods between irrigation applications. If planting a Baja Feather Duster in heavier soils, plant Calliandra californica on a mound or slope and raise the root crown a little above the surrounding grade. Calliandra californica blooms throughout the Summer with intermittent blooms in Spring and Fall. The Baja Fairy Duster is Winter hardy down into the mid to high teens. Butterflies likely to sip nectar from the red flowers of Calliandra californica include the Monarch, Cloudless Sulfur, California Dogface, Gray Hairstreak, Sara Orangetip, and the Spring Azure
