Costa's Hummingbird ~ Calypte costae

The Costa's Hummingbirds breed in the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts. They move to cooler locations during the heat of Summer. The Costa's Hummingbird can be found in Southern California gardens, particularly during the hotter Summer months and on rare occaisions will venture further north. The Costa's Hummingbirds have purple head and throat, a long flared gorget and a white eye patch. Attract hummingbirds to your garden. This Costa's Hummingbird is feeding on Ocotillo blossoms.
