Calliandra eriophylla ~ Fairy Duster

Calliandra eriophylla is a great addition to the butterfly garden and hummingbird garden. The Fairy Duster grows to 3 feet tall and wide. Calliandra eriophylla is native to grassland and creosote areas of the southern Deserts of California, Arizona and New Mexico and into Mexico. The Fairy Duster requires decent drainage or good drying periods between irrigation applications. If planting a Feather Duster in heavier soils, plant Calliandra eriophylla on a mound or slope and raise the root crown a little above the surrounding grade. Calliandra eriophylla blooms following rains Winter through Spring. Calliandra eriophylla is Winter hardy down into the mid to high teens. Butterflies likely to sip nectar from the pink flowers of Calliandra eriophylla include the Monarch, Cloudless Sulfur, California Dogface, Gray Hairstreak, Sara Orangetip, and the Spring Azure
