Philadelphus mexicanus plena ~ Double Flowering Evergreen Mock Orange, Mexican Mock Orange

Philadelphus mexicanus plena, the Double Flowering Evergreen Mock Orange can grow to be a large vine or shrub.  If left to its own devices and provided with enough water the Mexican Mock Orange can grow to 10 feet tall and 20 wide.  Philadelphus mexicanus plena produces fragrant blooms from Spring into Summer and will sometimes repeat in the Fall.  The Mexican Mock Orange will tolerate a variety of soils but does poorly in soggy conditions.  Philadelphus mexicanus grows in full sun near the coast but does better with some shade for inland gardens.  Philadelphus mexicanus plena is drought tolerant if put to the test and will stay evergreen through a dry summer  in a coastal garden but will produce few flowers when it is stressed.  Philadelphus mexicanus plena is Winter hardy into the low 20's
