 Mascagnia macroptera ~ Butterfly Vine

Mascagnia macroptera, the Butterfly Vine, is a great show for the semi-tropical garden.  It is the seedpods that look like butterflies.  The seedpod will fade from yellow-green to tan as it ages and is an entertaining addition to a dry flower arrangement.  Mascagnia macroptera is fairly thrifty in its water requirements.  The Butterfly Vine can bloom in the sun or shade.  The primary blooming period is during the Spring and Summer.  Mascagnia macroptera is hardy with temperatures that dip into the low 20's.
