Loyonothamnus
floribundus is a mid to large sized tree growing up to 60 feet tall,
usually taller than wide. The Catalina Ironwood is native to the
Channel Islands off the Southern California coast. Loyonothamnus
performs best in full sun with dry summers once established. The
Catalina Ironwood is noted for the gray peeling bark, the new bark is a
deep red, its open branching structure, and for leaves that vaguely
resemble something illegal. The white flowers are produced in late
Spring and early Summer. The Catalina Ironwood is Winter hardy into
the mid teens.
