Cobaea scandens ~ Cup and Saucer Vine

Cobaea scandens is often grown as an annual but in frost free, or nearly frost free locations it grows quite nicely as a long lived vine.  The soft tendrils of Cobaea scandens are easily pulled out of the neighboring shrubbery, though it will travel quite a distance if left unchecked.  The dark purple blossoms of Cobaea scandens are more than 2" across and are produced all year long unless the plants are damaged.  I have had good luck with these in lightly shaded sections of the garden.  Cobaea scandens has low to moderate water needs.

High resolution images of Cobaea scandens are available.
