Penstemon palmeri - Palmer's Penstemon
Penstemon palmeri is a perennial herb growing 3-6 feet tall usually taller than wide. Palmer's Penstemon grows in full sun to partial shade at higher desert elevations. Penstemon palmeri most often grows in sandy well drained soils. Penstemon palmeri has lavender pink flowers with hairs on the upper lip. Penstemon palmeri blooms in Spring at lower elevations and will still be blooming in the Summer at higher elevations. Penstemon palmeri will not have issues with cold in California. Expect Penstemon palmeri to go summer deciduous if conditions get too dry. Penstemon palmeri is a great addition to the Hummingbird and Butterfly Garden attracting the Variable Checkerspot and Common Buckeye Butterflies.
