Zigadenus fremontii grows in the Chaparral, and up into the lower reaches
of the pine forest communities. Zigadenus fremontii looks like it is
going to be renamed to Toxioscordion fremontii. Zigadenus fremontii
has a wealth of common names including Chaparral Star Lily, Fremont's
Death Camas, Chaparral Zigadene. All parts of this plant are
poisonous. Zigadenus fremontii prefers well drained soils and dry
summers. The leaves can grow to 18" and resemble the leaves of
the Soaproot, Chlorogalum, though not as wavy. Fremont's Star Lily
blooms through the Spring then goes dormant through the Summer months.
