Scabiosa caucasica has
larger flowers and is more upright in its growth habit than the other
pincushions. Scabiosa caucasica has long green leaves at the
base. The flower stalks grow to about a foot. Scabiosa
caucasica blooms from late Spring through much of the Summer if the blooms
are removed and repeats lightly in the Fall. Scabiosa caucasica
grows in full sun to light shade and does best with decent moisture and
well prepared soil. Scabiosa caucasica is a good cut flower and it
works well as a dried and pressed flower. Scabiosa caucasica has not reseeded in
our gardens, though some of the other species have. Scabiosa caucasica is
Winter hardy to zone 4.
