Robe is a gorgeous tree in its youth. The Purple Robe Black Locust
is a fast growing tree with vibrant green leaves and tresses of fragrant
purple fading to pink flowers in the mid to late Spring. In areas
that people might walk barefoot, the thorns of this tree become an
issue. As is common with rapidly growing trees they are prone to
dropping significant branches and losing their shape, not to mention
damaging whatever may be under the trees. Robinia pseudoacacia
Purple Robe can grow to 40 feet tall and 25 feet wide. The Purple
Robe Black Locust tree can thrive in poor soils with limited
irrigation. The Purple Robe Black Locust is Winter hardy to zone 4.
