Parthenocissus tricuspidata ~ Boston Ivy, Japanese Creeper

Parthenocissus tricuspidata is a vigorous enthusiastic plant.  Think carefully before allowing Boston Ivy to consume a large structure.  Parthenocissus tricuspidata will run if the stems touch the ground.  Boston Ivy will cover windows and vents.  The little attachment suckers are really difficult to remove.  It will climb a tree if you ever turn you back on it.  Roofing materials are never the same once the vines have been pulled off.  Even with all of that said.  I plant Boston Ivy regularly.  I love the Fall color.  The easy maintenance, once you  have resigned yourself to its failings, and keep it out of high places makes me keep putting in more.  Boston Ivy can make even the most oppressive wall beautiful.   Parthenocissus tricuspidata will look great if there is adequate water, and does quite well even in shady locations.  We are unlikely to have enough chill to present a problem.  Foliage will often burn on south facing exposures if there is not adequate moisture.
