Pacific Coast Iris Hybrids

These california native iris varieties grow in mixed evergreen and oak woodlands.  Iris douglasii has been hybridized with a number of the other Iris in California, Oregon and Washington.  The collection of hybrids is often called Pacific Coast Hybrids in the nurseries when they are mixed.  Many of the color forms have been named individually.  Native Iris  are most often seen in a shaded environment inland and can take more exposure as they get the protection of the humidity of the coast.   They require some drainage and drying between watering cycles.  This is a collage of a few of the Pacific Coast Hybrid Iris cultivars that are about.
