Hymenosporum flavum ~ Sweet Shade, Australian Frangipani, Queensland Frangipani

Hymenosporum flavum is a slender upright tree with very fragrant flowers.  Sweet Shade has also been called Queensland Frangipani and Australian Frangipani because the fragrance resembles that of Plumeria.  The flowers grow on the tips of the branches and are produced Spring through Summer.  The flowers change from pale to dark yellow as they age.  Hymenosporum flavum grows 30-40 feet tall and about half that width.  The Sweet Shade can be grown in full sun to light shade.  Hymenosporum flavum is drought tolerant and maybe even drought insistent.   The Sweet Shade does not appreciate soggy conditions.  Hymenosporum flavum is hardy with overnight temperatures into the mid teens.
