Festuca californica - California Fescue

Festuca californica, the California Fescue is native to California and Oregon. In the wild plants are found at elevations up to 5400 feet in chaparral and woodland habitats. Festuca californica does well in light shade where plants can grow up to 2 feet tall and clumps will spread to cover as much as 3 feet. Festuca californica is fairly drought tolerant once established and quite frost tolerant in California Gardens. Festuca californica is quite resilient when browsed by deer but the gophers find it to be a treat in our garden. Festuca californica can provide larval food for California Common Ringlet, caterpillars.
