Ferocactus gracilis coloratus * Fire Barrel Cactus

Ferocactus gracilis coloratus is a Baja California native cactus that grow to 12" wide and 48" tall. The Fire Barrel Cactus has some striking sellections with magenta spines. Ferocactus gracilis coloratus blooms Spring into Summer parallel with the regions rainfall. Flower color varies from red to orange  as the flowers age with a stripe up the middle of each petal. Ferocactus gracilis coloratus is round and red in its early stages and becomes columnar as it ages. Ferocactus gracilis coloratus requires well drained soils and will get by with no irrigation in our coastal environments. When planting in heavier soils be sure to plant on a mound. Ferocactus cylindraceus is winter hardy to around 25°F.
