Encelia californica ~ California Brittle-Bush, Coast Sunflower

Encelia californica is often found on the slopes near the coast.  The California Brittle-Bush is often included in seed mixes used for repairing slopes and road shoulders.  Encelia californica is typically 3 feet tall and grows to 4 or 5 feet wide.  The Coast Sunflower blooms almost all year, but the best blooming periods are in the Spring and Fall.  Encelia californica is tolerant of a wide variety of soils, but must dry out some between irrigation cycles.  Encelia californica will naturally cross with Encelia farinosa if both are planted nearby.  Encelia californica is frost tender.
