Distictis buccinatoria * Blood Red Trumpet Vine, Mexican Blood Vine

Distictis buccinatoria is a beautiful red or orange flowered vine.  The Blood Red Trumpet vine grows rapidly and can easily grow to 30 feet in length.  Distictis buccinatoria will persist with a little frost but if temperatures dip into the mid 20's there will be substantial damage.  Distictis buccinatoria requires support, either cables or a sturdy trellis will work.  The Mexican Blood Vine will persist with amazingly few resources once they are established.  Distictis buccinatoria prefers good soil and a South facing exposure with regular water.  I have seen them bloom with North exposures, somehow surviving in 12 inch square parking lot cutouts.
