Chondropetalum tectorum ~ Cape Reed
Chondropetalum tectorum is a South African reed in the plant family Restinaceae. This is the African analog to the Rushes in the North American Juncaceae family. The Cape Reed is capable of withstanding an amazing breadth of soil types and moisture conditions. I grew Chondropetalum tectorum in a pond for a year before it thought that was too much. I think only then because the root ball was under the water level. Chondropetalum will grow in heavy soil or light and even with little or no water.
