Ceanothus 'dark star' * California Lilac

The upright pyramidal nature of Ceanothus 'Dark Star' lends itself very nicely to being used as an informal screen.  Ceanothus Dark Star is dense and dark and makes a great backdrop for brightly colored flowers or light gray foliage.  I have seen plants get to 8' tall but that is the exception.  The dark blue flowers come on in the spring.  Ceanothus Dark Star is a cross between Ceanothus impressus and Ceanothus papillosus.  I often use it in combination with the prostrate Ceanothus hearstiorum.  The leaves and flowers have similar color and character.
