Butia
capitata - Pindo Palm, Jelly Palm |
The grace of the head of
the Jelly Palm on a bulbous trunk makes a beautiful sculpture all by itself. The grey leaves and striking fruits are
icing on the cake. Butia capitata has a slow to moderate rate of growth. I think
that rather nice when looking at these upwardly mobile telephone poles. Some
other species growth measures in feet per year. That is a maintenance
headache, especially with many communities putting restrictions on how
palm fronds can be discarded . Butia capitata will grow at less than
one foot of trunk per year.
