Barleria obtusa ~ Bush Violet

Barleria obtusa is a medium sized bush. The Bush Violet will grow to around 3-4 feet tall and will gradually widen to 6-10 feet or more if left unconstrained. Barleria obtusa is quite content in a dry garden, particularly in the shade. The Bush Violet will grow in full sun near the coast and in light shade in inland locations. Barleria obtusa will grow with natural rainfall once established. The blue flowers are more abundant in a sunnier location and are produced in the late Fall through to the Early Spring. Plants are hardy with temperatures that drop into the mid 20's. Reasonable drainage is a requirement, with heavy soils plants should grow on a slope or mound. Barleria obtusa is native to South Africa.
