Abronia villosa - Desert Sand Verbena, Hairy Sand Verbena

Abronia villosa is a fine addition to the Desert wildflower garden. The Desert Sand Verbena grows in sandy soils in open or South facing exposures. Abronia villosa grows about 6" tall and spreads to 2 feet or more. Abronia villosa can be the main plant in fields of pink flowers, but is often mixed with other annuals. Abronia villosa is a major food source for the White Lined Sphinx Moth, which in turn feeds the migration of Swainson's Hawks traveling from Argentina to spread throughout North America for the Summer. Abronia villosa blooms Winter into Spring. Abronia villosa is a great addition to the Butterfly Garden attracting the Painted Lady Butterfly.
