Reine des Violettes * Introduced in 1860

Reine des Violettes is one of the more fragrant roses.  This nearly thornless rose can be grown as a climber or as a large mounding shrub.  Reine des Violettes grows 6-8 feet canes.  The flowers grow on second year growth so hard pruning this rose will yield very few flowers.  I select out older canes and damaged wood and generally leave the rest.  Reine des Violettes has many 2-3" blooms in the Spring and then lightly repeats.  Reine des Violettes is a hybrid perpetual rose.
