Cardinal Hume * Introduced 1984

The Cardinal Hume Rose is the result of generations of hybrization including a [seedling x (Orange Sensation x Allgold) x rosa californica] x Frank Naylor.

It is great to see a california native rose included in the breeding program.  The red-violet blossoms of Cardinal Hume come on a fairly large shrub that can get to 8-10 feet.  The rose is named after Cardinal Basil Hume d.1999.  Cardinal Hume is another great rose for the back border.
