Eriogonum fasciculatum v. fasciculatum ~ California Buckwheat

Eriogonum fasciculatum is a common plant in the Coastal Sage Scrub and margins of the Chapparal communities. The California Buckwheat blooms with pale pink flowers that quickly age to rust colors. Eriogonum fasciculatum is found in full sun, in dry locations. The green leaves of the California Buckwheat make a garden look more moist and lush than it really is. Eriogonum fasciculatum grows 2 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide. Eriogonum fasciculatum is a great addition to the butterfly garden where it is a nectar source for the Gray Hairstreak, the Common Buckeye and the Mournful Duskywing. The California Buckwheat is Winter hardy into the low teens. Eriogonum fasciculatum is a host plant for the Western Tussock Moth Caterpillar.
